Cogent Films is an independent film studio founded and led by James Coulson.

Coulson is an Emmy Award-winning creative director, designer and filmmaker. He writes, directs, designs and edits, so nothing gets lost between the idea and the film.

He has spent his career working across brand, design, motion and film for companies including Anthropic, IBM, DoorDash, Samsung, J.P. Morgan, Reebok, BMW, HBO and NBC Sports. Filmmaking has been part of that work throughout, from directing live-action shoots to CG and VFX-led productions. Coulson also teaches thesis filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Generative AI is part of Cogent’s toolkit, used wherever it serves the film. Every project starts with the idea; the tools follow.
