DoorDash Dine-Out Demand
Product film for DoorDash Dine-Out Demand
DoorDash developed Dine-Out Demand to help independent restaurants turn DoorDash's digital reach into real-world visits. The platform combines discovery, targeted diner incentives and commission-free reservations to help restaurants attract more walk-ins, fill empty tables and build repeat business.
The audience was independent restaurant operators with limited time, marketing resources and technical infrastructure. The film needed to introduce a new product, explain several distinct benefits and make the value immediately understandable, all within 60 seconds and without voiceover.
The challenge was to turn a dense product story into something that felt simple, energetic and relevant to the everyday reality of a restaurant owner.
The story is built around a simple contrast: a restaurant can have great food and a thriving takeout business while its dining room remains empty.
That disconnect became the visual starting point for the film. Busy kitchens and takeout activity give way to empty tables, before the story moves outward to show how diners discover restaurants digitally and how DoorDash can turn that discovery into people walking through the door.
Working from the supplied script and creative direction, James Coulson developed the visual language, edit and animation for the film.
Live-action footage, typography, DoorDash product UI and graphic overlays were combined into a fast-moving editorial system designed to communicate without voiceover. Product interactions demonstrate discovery, rewards and reservations, while animated targeting cues make more abstract capabilities, such as reaching diners based on location and behaviour, immediately understandable.
The edit moves progressively from problem to product to outcome, ending with the thing that matters most to the audience: more people around the table.
